About Us:
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC, the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.
The candidate will help grow a research platform in the development of vitreous materials and processes through creation of innovative technologies with breakthrough performance features to serve a broad range of industrial and US government market needs.
Candidate will establish collaborations within SRNL, across the DOE National Lab network and industrial partners to create successful proposals to address DOE and other funding calls.
Candidate will also be responsible for leading applied science experimentation in the field of radioactive and hazardous material processing.

Requirements
Understands and applies discipline's advanced theories and concepts. Demonstrated multi-year experience in ceramic and/or glass chemistry and properties. Hands-on experience with the fabrication and characterization of novel ceramic and glass materials and a fundamental understanding of chemistry-property relationships. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey results in reports, manuscripts and/or technical presentations as appropriate. Publication record and peer recognition as an expert is a plus.
Basic Education Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an applicable science/engineering and 10 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Materials Science/Engineering, Glass Science/Engineering, Ceramic Science/Engineering.
Must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain security clearance.
